This year I’m on a mission to enjoy and bake more vegan foods and drinks. Using more vegan and sustainable products in my life has become a goal I’m loving a little more each day. A lot of people say that vegan products aren’t as nice as non-vegan products or that they’re more expensive but that just isn’t the case.
Baking and enjoying liqueurs is something that I don’t do often but when I do, it’s incredible. This year I’m giving the Amarula Marula Liqueur a try and I definitely have a few things to say about it. I won’t lie, I’d never heard of Amarula Marula before in my life so it was nice to try something new and as this one is coconut-based, it’s vegan!
What Is Amarula?
Amarula is a creamy liqueur originating from South Africa. It is made from the fruit of the African marula tree, which is also known as the elephant tree or the marriage tree. The fruit is similar in appearance to a small plum and has a tart flavour when fresh.
To make Amarula liqueur, the fruit is fermented, distilled, and then blended with cream to create a smooth and creamy drink with a unique flavour profile. It has a rich, caramel-like taste with hints of vanilla, chocolate, and tropical fruits. Amarula is often enjoyed neat over ice or used as an ingredient in cocktails and desserts. It is popular both in South Africa and internationally, known for its distinct flavour and smooth texture.
Amarula Liqueur Vegan
This Amarula cream is coconut based which makes the Marula Liqueur totally vegan meaning more people can enjoy the lush flavours that it has to offer. How long does vegan Amarula last?
There are use by dates on all of their bottles and when opened it is advised to keep chilled and use within 6 months. Due to the Amarula being vegan, this gives them a longer shelf life. The vegan Amarula is more practical and does not compromise on taste!
Is Amarula The Same As Baileys?
While Amarula and Baileys are both creamy liqueurs, they have different base ingredients and flavour profiles.
Amarula is made from the fruit of the African marula tree and has a unique flavour with hints of caramel, vanilla, chocolate, and tropical fruits. It has a smooth and creamy texture and is often enjoyed neat over ice or used as an ingredient in cocktails and desserts.
Baileys, on the other hand, is made from a blend of Irish whiskey and cream, along with other flavourings. It has a rich and indulgent flavour with notes of chocolate, vanilla, and coffee. Baileys is also creamy and smooth and is typically enjoyed in cocktails, mixed drinks, or poured over ice.
I am not the biggest fan of Baileys and given the choice would pick Amarula any day. It’s got a much more rich and creamy flavour and the vegan Amarula uses coconut at its base which gives it that rich flavour.
While both Amarula and Baileys are creamy liqueurs that can be enjoyed in similar ways, they have distinct flavour profiles due to their different ingredients.
What Does The Marula Fruit Taste Like?
The marula fruit has a unique taste that can be described as sweet and tart with hints of citrus and a subtle floral aroma. When ripe, the fruit has a juicy and slightly creamy texture with flavours reminiscent of pineapple, peach, and passion fruit. Some people also detect notes of pear or banana in the taste of the marula fruit. Overall, it has a refreshing and tropical flavour profile that makes it popular for eating fresh or used in various culinary applications, including making jams, juices, and liqueurs like Amarula.
The Amarula Cream Liqueur is the perfect treat for someone who likes their drinks rich, flavourful and sweet. It can be used in a whole host of recipes and enjoy on its own at the same time. You can buy the Amarula Marula Liqueur on Amazon. At the moment Amarula do not sell the bottles on their own website but I hope this will be coming soon. I much prefer to buy from the company website so that I can ensure the profits go to them and they’re able to put the profits into making even more delicious products.
Amarula Marula Liqueur Review
I personally love the Amarula Marula Liqueur. It’s rich, flavourful and works well over some ice. I can’t wait to try it on a hot summers day as I’m lounging in the back garden working at the patio set or enjoying an evening BBQ with friends. It would also make an amazing gift because it just looks so nice!
The Amarula Cream Liqueur is affordable and if you’re buying it from Amazon you can get next day delivery if you have Amazon prime so it’ll help you out if you need your fix or have to have it for a function.
