Simple Honey Garlic Chicken
This one pan wonder is a great recipe for all to enjoy. When it comes to Crohn’s recipes this is a great one. As it’s made with mashed potato and not rice, rice can cause flare-ups in people who suffer from Crohn’s so depending on your medical condition will depend on if you can have either rice or mash. I will say though, I prefer mash.
This recipe is packed with protein, flavour and ingredients that are proven to reduce inflammation in the body and also boost the immune system. Most people with IBD conditions will suffer from weak immune systems so it’s important to have IBD recipes that help with this.
IBD Garlic & Honey Chicken Recipe Ingredients
This recipe is full of ingredients that are rare to cause any flare-ups. That’s what makes it a versatile recipe and can be considered an IBD recipe, a Colitis recipe, Gut friendly recipe and a Crohn’s recipe. One of my favourite ingredients to cook with in IBD recipes has to be honey, it’s sweet, and full of flavour. Not to mention it’s also an antioxidant and reduces inflammation.
Take a look at some of the ingredients in this garlic & honey chicken recipe and how they can effect IBD conditions and flare ups.
Potato: Cooked potato is fine to eat if you have an IBD condition however it is not recommended during a flare up. Potato is a great ingredient to use if you have an IBD condition as they are versatile and can be served in various forms such as jacket potatoes, mashed potato, roasted or boiled potato.
Rice: Plain cooked rice is a great ingredient to use in IBD recipes as it’s very filling and is unlikely to cause a flare-up no matter the IBD issue you have. You’ll find plain rice in quite a few gut-friendly recipes and it’s an ingredient you can use in place of potatoes as well.
Chicken: Chicken is a great source of protein and it is a great ingredient to use if you have an IBD condition unlike red meat that can set off a UC flare-up. If you are looking for protein in your diet and want to make delicious recipes, chicken is the perfect ingredient and you can use various types of chicken such as chicken thighs etc.
Honey: Honey is a great ingredient to use if you have an IBD condition and is used in various IBD recipes. honey is an antioxidant and has antibacterial properties to help the immune system. Honey also helps UC flare up symptoms such as bloating and other common symptoms one may get.
Garlic: Garlic is a great ingredient to use in IBD recipes as it is full of antioxidants, has anti-inflammatory properties and is full of potassium and zinc which are 2 of the 10 deficiencies that can occur in people who have IBD conditions. It’s always important to make up for any deficiencies and garlic is a great way to do this.
Onions: Onions are uncommon to affect people with IBD conditions as long as it is cooked. However, it’s not advised to be used during a UC flare-up. Onions are a great source of flavour in recipes and can help fill a person up as some Crohn’s recipes can lack flavour and not be filling enough leaving people hungry.
Peppers: Peppers are a great addition to flavour and have anti-inflammatory properties which is great for people who have IBD conditions as they can help reduce UC flare-up symptoms. However, peppers need to be cooked so they don’t affect the body.
Oil: Oil is an ingredient that is uncommon in causing UC flare ups. However, if this is an ingredient that you know causes IBD flare ups, it’s best to avoid and use an alternative such as sunflower oil or coconut oil in small quantities.
