chicken and apple IBD recipe

There aren’t loads of healthy IBD recipes out there that taste good and consist of more than just chicken or eggs. Thankfully I’ve been putting together a lot of IBD recipes lately that are perfect for people who have gut reactions with conditions such as Crohn’s or Colitis. This is just one of the recipes I love making and it tastes amazing.

I can’t say I’ve ever thought about adding apples into dinners before but this recipe is 100% better with apples and thankfully as they’re peeled it means they are less likely to react to any stomach issues which makes it the perfect gut-friendly recipe that so many people can enjoy, if you have an IBD condition or not.

Now it’s important to remember that everybody is different so although this might not affect me as I’m always looking for Crohn’s recipes, it might affect others who have the same condition or other conditions. Everybody is different and that should be taken into consideration.

Chicken Apple Potato Bake IBD recipe

This chicken and apple traybake recipe is one of the best and most common recipes I have that are perfect for gut issues. It doesn’t matter if you’re looking for a Colitis recipe, IBD recipe, Crohn’s recipe or gut friendly recipe. This one ticks all the boxes. Although if anything in this recipe does set you off you can always leave it out. You don’t need any spices so if you are set off with high flavour profiles, this recipe is fine.

I would also advise peeling the apples in this recipe otherwise they may go brown, mushy and set your stomach off. It’s also a great way for your children to get fruit in their diet and you can disguise them as potatoes which most children will eat in abundance.

Chicken Apple Potato Bake Ingredients

The ingredients in this recipe should be fine for people with IBD issues. However, everyone is different but these ingredients are rare to cause a flare up. If you want to know a little more about foods that can set off IBD, take a look at this IBD Food List.

Green Apples: Green apples are a great source of vitamin C. They’re great for your immune system and a lot of people with IBD conditions will suffer from bad immune systems which makes it a great ingredient to add. They are also a very rare ingredient to cause flare ups.

Potatoes: Cooked potatoes are one of the Non-cruciferous vegetables that can help during a flare up. They’re plain, although make sure you peel them and cook them before consuming. They are one of the most used vegetables in most IBD recipes and can be used in various ways, cooked, roasted, boiled and mashed.

Peppers: Bell peppers are a low-FODMAP vegetable and are unlikely to cause bloating or digestive issues. However, it’s important not to eat them raw and to make sure they’re cooked. Raw vegetables can cause IBD flare ups causing digestive issues.

Onions: It’s important to cook the onions that you are using and to make sure you only use a small amount in your cooking. They are a great food to add flavours to your recipes but don’t overdo it otherwise they can cause digestive issues. They are not commonly used in Crohn’s recipes although are more common in overall gut-friendly recipes.

Chicken: Chicken is one main protein that is used in IBD recipes. Unlike red meat, chicken does not cause flare ups for people and is very rare to impact your digestive system. You’ll find I use chicken in most of my recipes that are gut friendly.

Thyme Herbs: Herbs are unlikely to cause any digestive issues, however spices can be a big factor in IBD flare ups. This is why people with digestive conditions will stay away from curry and hot/spicy foods.

Are there any ingredients that you use in your recipes? I make a lot of Crohn’s recipes as that’s the condition my partner has although I find that most gut-friendly recipes can be tweaked to be suitable for IBD conditions.

Honey & Garlic Chicken

I love making this honey & garlic chicken recipe. The natural sugars in the honey are rare to cause an IBD flare up and I find it’s one of my favourite Crohn’s recipes to make although it can be used or adapted for other recipes relating to your IBD condition. It’s bursting with natural flavour so you don’t have to use anything artificial which is best for digestion.

Thankfully this recipe is super easy to make. You want to make sure you have a decent roasting pan which will also come in handy for other recipes that you can make. If you fancy mixing it up a bit you can add a little honey which has natural sugars and is less likely to cause an IBD flare up unlike other sugars and artificial flavours.
